...The glorious Hope For Agoldensummer is up next. They start with one
of their folk cabaret classics before bringing out a new song, still imbued
with the beautiful deep vocals of the Campbell sisters, whose sound is
without peer, although at times there is a crossover in styles between
Claire Campbell and her friend and fellow singer-songwriter Leslie Helpert.
Overall, the band has a very original sound, which is heavily complemented,
rather than driven, by the serenely innovative, sparse percussion and
drumming provided by Jamie "Shep" Shepard. Just when I was worried
that Hope mightn't have any more tricks in the bag, they all step up to
the front of the stage and perform a short, five-part-harmony, anti-war
protest song, which sets the crowd going with rapturous applause... -Ben
